The film centers on , a boy who wears headphones to avoid verbal interaction and expresses himself through haiku, and Yuki "Smile" , a popular online influencer who hides her teeth behind a medical mask due to insecurities about her braces.

: Haiku serves as the primary bridge between the characters. Cherry’s poems appear visually on-screen as graffiti or digital text, acting as a "chapter" system for the film's emotional progression.

: A central plot point involves the search for a lost vinyl record for an elderly man named Fujiyama, highlighting the theme of preserving memories through art and sound. Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop (movie) - Anime News Network

: Both protagonists use physical objects—headphones and masks—as barriers to the outside world. The narrative follows their journey to "burst" these bubbles, much like carbonation in a soda.

The 2021 anime film , titled in English as Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop , is a vibrant coming-of-age romance that explores the intersection of traditional poetry and modern digital communication. Directed by Kyōhei Ishiguro, the film uses a distinct "pop art" visual style to tell the story of two teenagers overcoming deep-seated social anxieties. Core Themes and Narrative
